Family wants to know why girl not sent to hospital earlier
By DHARMENDER SINGH
KUALA SELANGOR: National service (NS) trainee Too Hui Min had complained of constipation for three days before she died and her family wants to know why camp officials did not take her to the hospital ea
rlier.
Her mother, Chin Kwee Choo, 52, said she was told by the Geo Kosmo National Service Training Camp staff in Kuala Kubu Baru that her daughter had complained of constipation for several days.
“But they said she only started to complain of pain when she went to the shooting range in Banting on Wednesday morning,” she said, adding that even then the camp authorities should have taken her to the hospital at once.
She said someone from the camp called her four times on Wednesday, with the first call at 8pm, to say that Hui Min was being taken to hospital, followed by another call at 9pm to say she was having problems urinating.
At 10pm Chin was told that her daughter would be warded and the final call, just before 11pm, was to tell her of Hui Min's death.
NS Training Department director-general Datuk Abdul Hadi Awang Kechil said Hui Min died on Wednesday at 10.45pm at the Slim River Hospital in Perak.
The teenager and 177 other trainees had chicken rice for lunch while training at the shooting range in Jugra Banting, Selangor. They arrived at the range at 1.45pm.
“We are in a state of disbelief because she was an active and hea
lthy 18-year-old,“ the distraught mother said. She has two other children.
Chin said Hui Min, who scored 7As in her SPM examination last year, was to enter Form Six at SMK Bukit Kuda in Klang on Monday.
“She was to come home today (yesterday) and apply to be exempted from the rest of the training to attend school but instead we are bringing her body back. My daughter is go
ne.”
She said the last time they spoke to Hui Min was when she called home on Monday. Soon after her body arrived at the family home in Taman Bayu here at about 3.15pm, seven of Hui Min's fellow trainees who shared the same hostel with her arrived to pay their respects.
NS Training Council member Joseph Wang, who visited the family, said an internal investigation would be conducted to find out what led to Hui Min's illness.
Hui Min’s body will be cremated at the Fairy Park cemetery at noon today. The hearse will leave the house at 11am.
Actually I read it from Sin Chiew, but I take this news from The Star. So sad, again a dead occur in National Service. Last time is a boy, dead after fever. This time...*sighAfter this holiday, I will be back to National Service to continue my training. I will have an interview for Institut Perguruan, Kursus Pemulihan(Bahasa Cina)/Sains/ Bahasa Inggeris. This will be my 3rd time to attend this kind of interview. Hope this time will be success! I rather to give up university to join that! That interview will be held on 14th May in Sibu. I will ask National Service there to send to the place the interview will be held. Then on 15th May, maybe I got the chance to hold the M-16 gun, start to feel excited, =P
After this holiday, there will less people in the camp, due to the begining of the class of Lower 6 on 12th May. The trainees will quit their training and further their study. Some of them will be quit after playing gun. So maybe after 16th May, half of the trainees will left the camp. I wish to become one of them, but...I'm already a Form 6 leavers. Good luck, juniors!
During this holiday, I want to hang out with family, 'lim teh' with friends, dating with boyfriend, =D and also dating with my computer, my Friendster, my Maple Island and also m y blog! Not forget still keep interact with the Lord, pray everyday. Just now I viewed pictures of MYF Sunday from my friends' album in Friendster, I hate that I can't be one of the pictures, one of the choir, of the dancers...but never mind, at least I got that purple MYF T-shirt, I even wear it in the camp! Quite supporting am I, isn't it?
Lots of friends left us to further study, started from 5th May, there were trainees who left the camp, especially for those who are selected to study in Matriculation, the class also began on 12th May. Girls especially from West Malaysia, we hugged together and cried...
I remember a funny and creative joke about the holiday, created by a trainee in the camp, and was be spread until myself.
"Those who want to go back to West Malaysia, please use Flying Fox. Those who want to go back to Kapit, Mukah, Oya, please use raft and canoe. Those who want to go back to Sibu, Sarikei, Bintulu, please marching."
Wow...so creative, what do you think?
